Day 1- Map Guide of Lexington


Sip Coffee at 9:00am!

Kick start your day with coffee and breakfast at Magee’s Bakery. This spot serves the best homemade baked goods in Lexington.  It offers many delicious items, such as breakfast casseroles, crullers, quiche, sandwiches, donuts and biscuits.

Explore the equine world at 10:00am!

Head to the Thoroughbred Park that’s a tribute to the horse industry in Lexington. The park features the very popular nineteenth century racehorse, bronze memorials, seven huge bronze statues of jockeys astride race horses, thirteen life-sized horse sculptures, and well-known jockeys like Pat day, Jerry Bailey, Randy Romero, and many more. A unique piece of thoroughbred history!

Next, head off to the Lexington Cemetery that houses the gravesites of some of the state’s well-known residents, such as Henry Clay, Todd Family and many more in US and Kentucky history.  Also, there is plenty of greenery and trees all around.

Mary Todd Lincoln House at 12:00pm!

Start with Mary Todd Lincoln House and know the interesting facts about Mary Todd’s young life at this historic home. It is the historic childhood house of the First Lady of the US- Mary Todd Lincoln.  Peruse the period furniture, artifacts, and personal possessions of the Todd-Lincoln family. It also has a garden surrounding the site.

Fill yourself up with delicious food at 1:00pm!

Head over to the Stella Kentucky Deli (143 Jefferson St) for delicatessen or Wagon Bones Grill (591 W. Hunt-Morgan House at 2:00pm!

Tour the Hunt-Morgan House. The house features three-story, spiral staircase, early nineteenth century portraits, family furniture, a garden and a Civil War museum on the second floor that has local Civil War memorabilia.

Ashland-The Henry Clay Estate at 3:00pm!

Ashland-The Henry Clay Estate is a nineteenth century mansion with 18 rooms. See the Kentucky’s statesman, Henry Clay family possessions and memorabilia at this home. There is a garden surrounding the mansion, and 17-acres of wooded parkland.

Art Museum at University of Kentucky at 4:00pm!

Head over to the Art Museum at University of Kentucky that houses permanent collections spanning a variety of genres and media. It features American and European artwork from the old times to the present day. Works include prints, paintings, drawings, sculptures, decorative arts and photographs.

Head over to the Red Mile. The Red Mile is the city’s oldest race course. It hosts harness racing in which horses pull the two-wheeled carts while racing. It has a park, two-story clubhouse and the Red Barn that is a cupola-topped structure.
