Getting In and Around Lexington

Lexington is located at the crossroads of I-75 and I-64 in Fayette County. About 75% of the US population is within a day’s drive of Lexington. The city is accessible by air, train, car and bus. Lexington is served by the Blue Grass Airport (LEX), approx 10 minutes drive from downtown. All the major airlines fly to this airport.  The major airlines serving this airport are US Airways, Allegiant Air, United Express, American Eagle, and Delta Air Lines. Amtrak train serves Lexington. The train service in Lexington is Amtrak’s Cardinal. The nearest station is Maysville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. 

 

Lexington is served by Interstate-64 from Louisville (west) and Charleston, West Virginia (east), and Interstate-75 from Knoxville (south) and Cincinnati (north).  It is also served by U.S. Highways 68, 60, 27 and 25. Get to Lexington through these major interstates.  

Greyhound bus service is offered in Lexington. The Greyhound station is on New Circle Road, approx 10 minutes from downtown.

The easiest and convenient way of getting around Lexington is by Car. The downtown area is walkable with several entertainment, restaurants, hotels and shopping spots all within walking distance.  The city’s bus system is also convenient and reliable. 

Lextran offers bus service in Lexington. It’s a public transportation bus system in Lexington. Service from the downtown Transit Center to the airport and several areas of the city is offered.  The mainline buses run from 5:30am to 12:30am. The fare for the regular bus is $1.

Tour the downtown Lexington via COLT Free Trolley Service.  It’s a free service offered in the downtown area, and is operated and managed by LexTran. It connects the Lexington Center (Convention Center) and Rupp Arena with the main bus terminal, Visitors Center, University of Kentucky Campus, Thoroughbred Park, Transylvania University, and all the theatres, nightspots and restaurants in between. The service operates on two routes- 

• Monday to Friday, the service runs along the Blue Route, from 11:30 am until 2:00pm, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6:00pm until 1:00am. 
• The Green Route runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 9:00 pm until 3:00am.
